About Garden Pathways
Garden Pathways is an exciting new vocational training programme for young people.
The programme enables trainees to develop personal and employability skills whilst engaging in practical-based gardening activities. Each trainee will be guided by their personal training plan, to enable them to achieve their individual goals and aspirations.
Garden Pathways Aims
The Garden Pathways is a flexible training programme to enable trainees to achieve the programme core aims:
- Personal Development
- Employability Skills
- Gardening Skills and Experience
Garden Pathway aims to build trainees’ confidence through personal development planning.
Trainees’ personal training plans will guide them to develop and evidence personal qualities such as leadership, creativity and resilience. Personal development planning enables trainees to identify and achieve their potential, improving their employment prospects.
Employability skills are a core component of the Garden Pathways programme, as we believe they are essential for successfully entering into employment. The flexible training programme allows trainees to develop skills such as job searching, CV building and interview skills. These are achieved in various ways such as guided independent study, workshops and training days and partnership work with other agencies.
Gardening Skills and Experience
Throughout the programme trainees will learn new horticultural skills, whilst delivering a garden clearance and maintenance service for vulnerable adults in the borough. Trainees will be mentored by our staff to deliver this service and will also have the opportunity to take part in a nationally recognised horticultural award accredited through the City and Guilds.
Who can access the service?
The service is available to anyone over the age of 16 facing barriers to employment. All applicants must live in the Dudley borough.Please contact the Garden Pathways Team for more information about eligibility criteria.
How long is the programme?
The training programme is flexible to meet the goals and aspirations of trainees, and is therefore split into two stages.
Stage 1: Trainees must take part in the programme for at least 2 days per week over a 3 month period.
In this time they will develop general employability skills as well as a basic knowledge of garden maintenance.
Stage 2: After 3 months trainees will have the option to take part in a nationally accredited horticultural award, which will take 6-9 months to complete.
Trainees taking part in stage 2 will gain a deeper knowledge of horticulture and further develop their personal and employability skills.
