“Getting Involved and Having Your Say” – Adam’s Story

Adam in Calderdale is an incredibly active member of the Creative Support community. As well as regularly attending our Creative Voices and Engagement Day events, he has also recently been re-elected as the Chair of the Creative Together Committee. Adam describes why getting involved in these events and discussing what matters to you is so important.

Hi Adam, what have you been getting up to recently?

I’ve been to Halifax Town Hall to attend a Calderdale Council meeting, I’ve also been to the Creative Together annual general meeting and I’ve been on a day trip to Manchester.

What did you do at the annual general meeting for the Creative Together Committee in Calderdale?

I spoke to everyone about why I wanted to be re-elected as Chair of the Committee. Other people did the same for the roles that they wanted. We enjoyed nice food and I took some biscuits to share. There was also music and dancing – it was good!

How would you describe your involvement in the Creative Together committee?

I feel good because I like to be involved. I attend the Creative Together meetings and chair them. I read through the agenda and feedback the discussions to the other people who live at my house.

You attended the Creative Voices event in Doncaster in April. What did you enjoy about it?

I found it very interesting to hear from the Creative Support Board and got to meet new friends. I also liked the venue.

Why do you think it’s important to get involved in these events?

I enjoy being involved in these discussions and I like my voice to be heard, but I also like hearing what other people have to say. It’s important to me to be informed about things that are happening that might affect me. Feeling independent and doing the things I want to do helps me to feel confident.

What would you say to anyone thinking of attending our next Creative Voices event?

You will meet nice people and staff, get to listen and learn new things, and have your say and be involved in the discussions.

If Adam has inspired you to join a Creative Support event, come along to our next Creative Voices in Halifax this October. Look out for more details on our social media pages.
