Mental Health Awareness Week 2026
This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week (Monday, 11th May – Sunday, 17th May), led by the Mental Health Foundation. This year, the theme is all about ‘Action’, encouraging everyone to take small steps to promote their mental wellbeing.
Often, action feels easier said than done. This is why the Mental Health Foundation highlight the importance of manageable, everyday acts of care, which can create extremely positive, long-term improvements to people’s lives.
At Creative Support, we understand that each person is different and we adapt our support to reflect this. Through person-centred support, we listen to individuals and support them to complete acts of care that benefit them. This allows us to support each person to feel their best and achieve their goals. We accomplish this through everyday activities, such as going on walks and socialising, alongside larger events, like group mindfulness activities.
On 24th April, people we support in Accrington took part in an uplifting sound bath and guided meditation experience. Sound baths use chimes, gongs, and singing bowls to immerse your body in different sounds and vibrations. According to Science Insights, these vibrations help to slow your breathing and relax your body and mind. Guided meditation uses breathing exercises to calm your central nervous system so that you feel more in control.
All ten attendees thoroughly enjoyed the tranquil experience, which helped them to feel calm, grounded, and gave them a space to enjoy the music.
Senior Support Worker, Greg, supported people to attend the session. He commented on its clear benefits: “We are all very proud of the results and positive feedback from all those that attended our sound bath. Hosting this event has made a positive difference to individual’s mental health and well-being.”
Following such positive feedback, monthly sound bath and meditation sessions are being planned across the area. Trying something new may seem a bit daunting at first, but you never know when you’ll find your new favourite self-care activity!
New experiences, such as these, are so important in maintaining and improving our mental health. They help us to find new ways of regulating our bodies and our emotions, so that we can live a more peaceful life.
What other acts of care could you try?
- Chat with a friend, family member, and/or support worker
- Go on a peaceful walk
- Listen to your favourite, upbeat songs
- Write a list of things you are grateful for
- Write down and/or talk about the things that make you feel anxious
- Enjoy a warm bath or shower
Whether you meditate for 30 minutes each day, or chat with someone who helps you to feel safe, we encourage you to complete at least one self-care activity every day. Through these healthy habits, you can better your mental health and wellbeing, building a happier and healthier life one small habit at a time.
