Before you sign up for volunteering, you may have some questions. Check out our FAQs to see if we have already answered them, if not you can feel free to contact us with any queries.

I’d like to volunteer but there isn’t an advert for where I live, can I still volunteer?

Yes you can, we have services nationally! If you are interested in volunteering but cannot find a role for your interests or area then please contact us and we will help find you a volunteering role for you.

 

Do you sponsor visas for overseas volunteers?

No, unfortunately Creative Support do not offer sponsorship for volunteer visas and are unable to accept volunteers who do not reside in the UK

 

Do you pay travel expenses?

Yes we do. We will support with the cost of public transport and car mileage.

 

Why do I need to have a DBS check?

As we support vulnerable people all staff and volunteers at Creative Support need to have a DBS.

 

Can I still volunteer if I have a criminal record?

This is assessed on a case by case basis, please do still apply and disclose the information.

 

Will I receive training?

Yes, all Volunteers will received mandatory training from our training department, Creative Academy. Once you are volunteering with us, you will be able to access further training connected to your role, you can ask your volunteer supervisor.

 

What support will I receive as a volunteer?

As a volunteer we will support you in your role by providing a volunteer handbook, an induction, training, access to a volunteer supervisor, regular supervisions, a peer network support group and a monthly volunteer newsletter.

 

How much time do I need to give?

Times are dependent on the role, some can be regular slots for a couple of hours on a weekly basis or you can just join us for specific events or activities. You can discuss with us about the time you would like to offer and we can find a role that fits. We can also support those who would like to volunteer within specific times of the year e.g. when on university semester breaks.

 

When / what times can I volunteer?

Days and times are usually discussed with the services and can be dependent on need, with some having specific requirements and others being quite flexible. If you cannot attend the times in the adverts, then still get in touch with us as we can always discuss other opportunities more suitable for you.

 

What age restrictions are there on volunteering?

In order to volunteer with us in our services you will need to be 18+.

 

Will volunteering affect my benefits?

Volunteering does not affect your benefits, as long as you do not receive any payment other than travel expenses but you will need to inform your benefits advisor.

 

Will you provide me with a reference?

Yes, after you’ve volunteered with us for six months we will provide you with a reference.
