Activities Volunteer
We are an extra service located in Jarrow. The setting is quiet and the building has communal gardens and one communal lounge. The people who live there have a range of needs, some complex, but most have a degree of independence.
We are looking for a volunteer with good communication skills who will be able to listen to the thoughts and ideas of the people who live here, share some time with them, and come up with some activities as a result. We have already looked at people’s interests, and it is likely that the volunteer will be involved in art and craft activities so a background knowledge in this area would be ideal.
We promote a person centred approach. This means that the volunteer will be led by what people want and will be helping them achieve their goals. Part of this will be about making our service more personalised, this could mean making mosaics that represent the people who live there – being creative and enthusiastic are key to this role.
We support our volunteers with an Induction, training for the role, a named volunteer supervisor, a monthly newsletter and a monthly online peer support group.
Preferred hours per week/time commitment: Flexible on days and times.
Volunteer duties:
• Chatting to the people who live at the service and discovering more about their interests
• Coming up with ideas for activities, likely to include arts and crafts but not limited to this
• Liaising with staff around resources and support
• Promoting and instigating the activities
• Making our service more personalised and person centred (additional support and training is offered around this)
• Report any concerns to staff members.
