Creative Support is keen to increase service user involvement in the work of our Board of Trustees. There are a number of ways you can do this.
Become a Shareholding Member of Creative Support
You can become a member of Creative Support and have a say in the aims and growth of Creative Support. You will need to fill in an application form, and if accepted, pay £1 for a Share. You will then be invited to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and any other Special Meetings. You will be able to vote at these meetings, even if you are unable to attend in person. Become a Member of the Board of Trustees

Give Advice to the Board of Trustees
From time to time the Board of Trustees will hold special events to promote service user involvement in their work. These include:
- Board members visiting projects to speak to service users
- Meet the Board events
- An annual Quality Day hosted by Board members
- Giving your views to the Board’s Committees

Creative Support involves service users in choosing their staff from the initial group interviews to individual interviews. Recruitment training is available locally for service users who would like to join our panel of interviewers and this will tell you all you need to know. You can choose how often or where you would like to do the interviews and will be paid for the work you do.
Health and Safety Checks, and Looking After Your Home
Health and Safety is taken very seriously at Creative Support and we encourage all our service users to be involved in making their environment as safe as possible. Our Health and Safety policy is available in an Easy Read format as well as a DVD. You can ask to get involved in the daily Health and Safety checks which take place at all our properties, or ask for a copy of guide to How to Look After Your Home so that you can get involved in maintaining a pleasant environment in your home.
You can also take part in the Regional Health and Safety Committee meetings which are attended by the Risk and Safety Manager, staff and service users, to have a real say in health and safety matters at Creative Support. Magazine and Newsletters
Creative Support are keen for you to contribute articles to the quarterly national service user magazine, Creative Life. It is also available in spoken word format on request. There are also opportunities for you to:
- Become a reporter
- Interview someone – perhaps a member of staff, another service user or someone in your local community
- Send us an article or photo about something you have done or something you are interested in
- Join the editorial team
- Do a voice recording of the magazine.
A £10 voucher is given for all published photos or articles.
Many of you now have your own local newsletter. Natasha Kirby in the Marketing Team at Head Office can offer advice on how to go about starting your own newsletter, provide a template to use and even visit your project to help get you started.

Creative Support is keen to make sure that the information we provide to service users, our policies and our marketing publications are as attractive and easy to understand as possible. Service users can be involved in writing policies or reviewing marketing materials, or be involved in putting the information into an Easy-Read, audio or video format. You will be paid for the work that you do.

Creative Support is keen to consult with service users on all aspects of the service that we provide in order to ensure that we provide the service that you want in a way that is suitable for you. You can help us by:
- Attending consultation meetings
- Attending the annual Board of Trustees Quality Event
- Attending the annual Service User Regional Consultation meetings
- Completing questionnaires
- Setting up your own Service User Forum or Tenants’ Meeting and feeding any issues back to your staff or the manager of your service.
- Attending Tenants’ Meetings
- Attending local and regional meetings such as your local Learning Disability Partnership Boards or mental health group
- Giving us feedback through Facebook or Twitter
We can offer advice and local training for service users who would like some help on how to get started with organising their own service user group, or who would like to learn some skills in order to attend meetings.

When Creative Support is bidding for contracts, service users and tenants sometimes help with our presentations, to explain to commissioners, potential service users or tenants and their families how Creative Support has helped them and to give their views of the service they have received. Additionally, when service users or tenants transfer from another provider to being supported by Creative Support we organise welcome meetings for the new service users or tenants and their families and carers where service users and tenants from existing projects participate to offer reassurance about the service they receive and the benefits of being supported by Creative Support. We also hold a number of events and activities throughout the year to raise awareness of various issues that are important to the people we support, e.g. International Women’s Day, Dignity Day, etc. and we encourage service users and tenants to get involved in these events. You can volunteer to assist with the organisation and running of the day in general and if you have knowledge and/or experience of the theme, that you are willing and able to share to benefit others, then you could be included as one of the speakers on the day. Creative Support believes that all service users should be involved in planning their support and how they would like this to be delivered. This could involve helping to write your own Person Centred Plan, Recovery Action Plan, Health Action Plan or Move-On plan, and taking part in reviewing the plan at regular intervals. Speak to your support worker if you would like to know more.
Creative Support has a holiday home near Windermere in the Lake District which is available for you to book, either by the week or as a short break. It has full disabled access and is convenient for all the attractions of the Lake District. You can be accompanied by staff or by friends and family.
