The Sandwell projects have been given an allotment with raised beds by BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers), who also provide the gardening tools they need. The service users and BTCV staff and volunteers have worked together to landscape the area around the allotments, putting in a pond and herb garden.
Andrew is one of our service users who enjoys working on the allotment and reaping the rewards both physically and emotionally with delicious vegetables and a peaceful oasis: ‘In the allotment we grow beetroot, beans, onions, garlic, cabbage, leeks and potatoes. I like to come here and be away from the house; sometimes it is good to have time out.
I also like to try new things, I have done canoeing, swimming and badminton and I like to go camping. I also like to go to the pub.’
