Salary: Voluntary

Closing Date: 12 December 2018

Short Job Description:

About the Service: Clough House is one of our supported living services in Manchester which provides support for adults with a learning disability. The service focuses on promoting independent living, social inclusion and maintaining the physical and mental wellbeing of the people we support.

Purpose of the role: We are looking for two friendly, enthusiastic Volunteer Befrienders to support two of our service users to engage more with their local community and to expand their social network. As a Volunteer Befriender you will support our service users to improve their confidence in and encourage them to participate in activities they enjoy.

Our first service user would like a befriender who will help her improve her confidence with going into the community. She enjoys films, singing, playing dominoes, and socialising. This lady loves to go shopping for handbags and then going for a coffee in a local coffee shop. She has also expressed an interest in wanting to do more walking and would like to try yoga.

Our second service user would like a befriender who enjoys watching her favourite TV programmes – particularly soaps like Coronation Street and EastEnders. She is a fairly quiet lady and would love someone who could support her to socialise more in the community. This lady enjoys cooking and shopping, and in the future would love to be able to build her confidence enough for day trips out. Due to the needs of this service user she would she would prefer a female befriender.

If you share any of the above interests and would like to use your skills in this rewarding volunteer role, while making a positive difference in your local community, we’d love to hear from you!

Suggested Time Commitment: We ask that interested applicants are available to volunteer for two hours a week. The service users have stated afternoons and evenings are the best time for them, and they would prefer to meet with their befriender on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
