Position Categories: Mental Health, new, North West, Part Time, Voluntary

Location: Whalley Range, South Manchester

Salary: Voluntary

Closing Date: 06 November 2018

Short Job Description:

About the Service: Our supported living service in South Manchester provides support to adults with mental health related needs. Our staff team promote positive lifestyles and support our service users to maintain their wellbeing by encouraging them to engage with their local community. To compliment the work we do, we would like to recruit Volunteer Befriender’s to promote social inclusion and expand the social networks of our service users.

Purpose of the role: One of our service users would like a Volunteer Befriender who can accompany him to activities he enjoys and spend time chatting to him about his interests. He has lots of different interests, which he enjoys both at home and in the local community.

When at home, he enjoys listening to music, watching videos, studying maths and English, and having a good chat about different topics he is interested in. He also likes to go to the gym, attend concerts and events, go shopping and go to church. The gentleman also enjoys going out for meals, going to the cinema and going to concerts, which he’d like to do now and again with his befriender.

His many interests and friendly manner makes it very easy for someone who’s interested in becoming a befriender to find common interests and develop a great befriending partnership. If you have great communication skills and would like to use your interests and experience to reduce social isolation, we’d love to hear from you.

This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience within the social care sector while volunteering in a fun and rewarding way.

Suggested Time Commitment: The service user has asked for a befriender for Wednesdays anytime between 10am – 7pm. We suggest interested applicants are able to volunteer for a minimum of 1-2 hours a week. There may also be occasional evenings if there is a concert.
