Volunteer Befriender (Job Ref: 19860)

Position Categories: Mental Health, new, North West

Location: Sale, South Manchester

Salary: Voluntary

Closing Date: 03 November 2018

Short Job Description:

About the Service: Our Floating Support Service in Sale provides a recovery focused service for adults with mental health needs. We work with individuals who may be experiencing mental ill health and social isolation and help them gain greater independence and connect with their local community. To compliment the service we provide we are looking to recruit Volunteer Befrienders.
Purpose of the role: We are looking for a patient and friendly volunteer to befriend a 55 year old gentleman who lives in Sale. He would like the support of a befriender to keep him company, offer reassurance and at times, support him in the community to complete tasks such as shopping.
He is interested in going to organised activities and groups to meet new people but lacks confidence, so would benefit from some support and encouragement to attend. He is also interested in learning to play the guitar and would like to learn how to use his laptop, so a volunteer who shares one of these interests would be fantastic.
As a Volunteer Befriender you will support the service user to research activities and groups he’d like to attend and accompany him to these until he gains confidence to attend independently. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a warm, friendly personality to provide support and company to an isolated individual who lacks confidence.
Suggested Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week, on any day of the week – this is flexible around the availability of the volunteer but would need to be planned ahead to ensure there is structure and boundaries to the befriending partnership.
