Short Job Description:

About the Service: Our Burnmill Road service in Market Harborough provides a lovely supported living accommodation to three ladies with learning disabilities and other support needs. The residents enjoy accessing their local community and like to visit cafes, restaurants and parks with the support of staff.

Purpose of the role: We are looking for a friendly, patient Volunteer Befriender to provide reassurance and companionship to one of the ladies when she is accessing the local community with staff. The lady who would like the support of a befriender is in her 50’s, has a learning disability and a visual impairment. She uses minimal verbal communication and has limited mobility, so uses a wheelchair when she is out and about.

Staff assist the lady whenever she goes out in the community, but she would benefit from the added support of a volunteer to assist with ordering refreshments and offering reassurance. The lady can feel a bit nervous when she is out in the community and a caring, empathetic volunteer would make a big difference in making sure she gets the most out of her trips out.

Suggested Time Commitment: Volunteering days are flexible around the availability of the volunteer. We ask applicants are able to commit to a minimum of two hours each week between 11:00am-2:00pm.
