Volunteer Internet Champion (Job Ref: 19938)

Position Categories: Full Time, new, North West, Older People, Voluntary

Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester, North West

Salary: Voluntary

Closing Date: 15 August 2018

Short Job Description:

About the Service: Creative Support’s Extra Care services promote choice, dignity, respect, privacy and security. Our staff teams work to enhance each service user’s quality of life, personal safety and mental and physical wellbeing by working closely with other agencies, family members and the service user.

The activity sessions are designed to reduce levels of social isolation, teach new skills and build on existing skills, and boost levels of confidence and self-esteem. We encourage our service users to access events and activities held at our services to increase social inclusion.

Purpose of the role: As a Volunteer Internet Champion you will use your strong computer skills to deliver a weekly session that will help our service users to learn basic IT skills. The weekly group will usually consist of 4-10 older people and will run for 1-2 hours. By running this group you will help to empower the older generation to access necessary online information and gain confidence in using computers. This can be used through the ‘Learn My Way’ digital champion course or through your own structured sessions.

While running the IT sessions, you will engage in conversation and build relationships with the service users. This will help the service users to learn in a relaxed, yet informative way. This is a perfect opportunity for a volunteer wanting to gain skills in facilitating a group and teaching whilst sharing their own skills and knowledge.
