About the Service: Bromley Extra Care services provide person-centred care and support to
vulnerable adults living in our services.
We run a range of activities and sessions; including healthy eating, mindfulness, arts and crafts,
music and sports. The activity sessions are designed to reduce levels of social isolation, teach new
skills and build on existing skills, and boost levels of confidence and self-esteem.
We support our service users to access numerous community events and activities to increase social
Purpose of the role: As a Volunteer Befriender you will provide a friendly face to a service user
matched to you based on your personality and interests. The role will involve supporting your
service user to access a community activity, pubs and cafes, music events, football games, local art
galleries and museums, parks, or if you prefer, within their own home.
We are looking for patient, understanding volunteers who are happy to try out new activities with
the service users. They may sometimes need encouragement to try new things and visit new places,
which friendly, positive and approachable volunteers will be able to promote them to do.
This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to combine their friendly, kind hearted

Suggested Time Commitment: We are looking for volunteers to give a minimum of one hour per
week, but there is some flexibility to this role. The days and times can be agreed to suit your
Other Information: There are two positions available as Volunteer Befrienders. Due to the needs of
the service users, one of the volunteers would preferably be female. However we have many similar
roles if male volunteers wish to be befrienders.
Due to the mobility of the service users, volunteers may be required to push a wheelchair when
befriending them out in the community if this is something they feel comfortable doing. Volunteers
will receive full training for this.
