Short Job Description:

About the Service: Courtyard Apartments are a supported living service for people who have support needs such as learning disabilities, autism, or mental health needs. The tenants are largely independent and receive 14 hours a week support for housing related activities. The tenants would benefit from a befriender to accompany them in accessing their local community, such as going shopping and attending social activities. They may also benefit from encouragement and support to organise joint social events and activities with other service users based at the project.

Purpose of the role: This is a great opportunity for a friendly individual to befriend a member of their local community and support them to access the community, improve their confidence and increase their social network to reduce social isolation.

The befriending role would start with spending time with the tenants to get to know them as individuals and find out their interests. This would allow a befriender to find out how to best support them, such as accessing the community, attending new activities for the first time, shopping, attending appointments, or just having someone to talk to. A befriender could also support to coordinate a day trip, dining out or attending a concert or sport event.

Suggested Time Commitment: We would suggest a minimum time commitment of 2-4 hours a week initially but can be flexible once the tenants needs are identified.
