Short Job Description:

About the Service: Halton Lodge is a 66-bedded homeless service located in Runcorn. The service, which is managed by Creative Support, provides outcome-focused support to adults (including young adults who are 16 and 17) with a range of support needs including mental health related needs, substance misuse issues, physical health related conditions, learning disabilities and/or autism spectrum conditions and people with a history of offending.

The service provides short-term accommodation, with the aim of enabling service users to develop the necessary skills and confidence for finding and sustaining accommodation in the local community. Alongside the structured support we provide, we also run a monthly activity timetable for our clients offering a range of opportunities including health and wellbeing related activities, basic skills classes and social opportunities.

We are currently recruiting for a range of voluntary positions to complement the work our staff do at the service. Halton Lodge boasts a range of facilities on-site including activity spaces, a catering kitchen and café, two fully-equipped music rooms and a gym. Halton Lodge also has a large garden space, perfect for group activities. We are also keen to run activities and provide opportunities outside of the service.

Purpose of the role: We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer with a passion for sports and fitness to support in our timetable of activities. We are committed to providing opportunities for our clients to engage in beneficial activities and learn new skills, and we are aiming to develop our activity timetable to include more physical activity and sports. The on-site facilities at the service include a small gym which is fairly popular with residents, but could be developed further to engage those with less confidence or experience.

We have recently started a weekly Saturday running club with the help of a resident who is taking ownership of facilitating the session. As a Volunteer Activity Assistant, you would support the resident in the weekly running club and you would also have the freedom to develop new sessions that will keep residents active in ways that are accessible to their varied backgrounds.

Suggested Time Commitment: We ask that applicants are available for two hours each week to support in the running club, otherwise we are flexible.
