Position Categories: new, North West, Voluntary

Location: Altrincham

Salary: Volunteering

Closing Date: 18 February 2018

Other Job Ref Numbers: 18806CRJ

Short Job Description:

About the Service: Stokoe Avenue is a supported living service for adults with a learning disability in Altrincham. The service supports five ladies and one gentleman aged between 28 and 55 years old, and some of the clients also have a physical disability. All of the clients have very well-structured weeks, ensuring they have their choice of enjoyable, rewarding activities to get involved in. In order to provide an opportunity for our clients to get more involved with their local community and meet people outside their usual social network we are looking for volunteers to become befrienders.

Purpose of the role: We are looking for a friendly, patient volunteer to befriend a 54 year old gentleman who lives at Stokoe Avenue. He is a very happy person who is always smiling and would like the support of a befriender to accompany him to activities in the local community and trips out to garden centres and parks. He is non-verbal, has an infectious grin and very easy to get along with. He really enjoys going out in the car and taking in the scenic parts of Manchester, and has an interest in trees and plants. The gentleman has his own car which a volunteer will be insured to drive. He is also a fan of Elvis, building sites and diggers and known to enjoy plane-spotting at Manchester airport!

This role would be ideal for someone who can drive and shares some of the gentleman’s interests. As he lives at the service with 5 ladies the gentleman would prefer a male befriender who would enjoy joining him on trips out and getting involved in activities such as bowling. This is a really rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to use their strong interpersonal skills and caring nature to make a positive difference to the life of someone in their community.

Suggested Time Commitment: We ask that applicants are available to volunteer on either a Monday or Tuesday for two hours between 10:00am – 2:00pm, however we will do our best to work around your availability.
