Short Job Description:

We require a progressive practitioner with extensive mental health experience for our Residential Mental Health Recovery Service for up to 10 people with mental health needs, located in Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent. You will be part of and lead a highly committed team of Recovery Support Workers which provides the delivery of a person-centred recovery and residential rehabilitation service for people with enduring mental health needs.

The Role

The role will involve acting as the Registered Manager in ensuring the efficient and effective management of the service and taking responsibility for designated functions. When on duty you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management and leadership of the service and for the direct supervision of Recovery Support Workers. You will be expected to undertake high quality holistic assessments and recovery-focused support plans, working closely with local mental health teams to provide a joined-up service. You will respond to new referrals, undertake needs/risk assessments and take part in allocation processes. You will ensure that each person moving into the service has a personalised transition with clear goals and expected outcomes for their use of the service.

You will organise and lead 3 monthly person-centred review meetings for the people you are responsible for, in conjunction with their wider care team, ensuing that the service is enabling people to maintain and improve their mental health/physical wellbeing and is developing their capacity for independence. You will ensure that residents enjoy a positive lifestyle, which includes opportunities for personal development and meaningful activity based on their strengths and interests.

When on duty you will take responsibility for leading the shift and deploying support workers and ancillary staff, ensuring that the service is well organized and is delivered safely and effectively in accordance with CQC standards and agency requirements. You will also take overall responsibility for the service, carrying out health and safety checks and quality audits. You will provide excellent customer care and proactively communicate with stakeholders in respect of risk management and the care and welfare of the people we support. You will have a strong ethical duty of care and a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

In addition, we are currently reviewing the service model in order to ascertain whether the service can change from residential status to supported living, therefore being highly motivated about change management is vital and we are seeking innovative individuals who like a challenge and can offer positive feedback throughout this process.

Qualities Required

Applicants will be able to demonstrate warmth, compassion and unconditional positive regard for the people we support and will be able to develop trusting relationships based on empathy and respect. You will have the skills and personal qualities to be able to engage people in meaningful planning and therapeutic activities. You will be expected to work collaboratively and professionally with the people we support, their families and mental health professionals/agencies.

You will need an up-to-date understanding of the recovery approach and recovery principles as well as mental health legislation, services and interventions. You will demonstrate a good knowledge of the MHA, MCA, DOLs and the care standards. You will have the knowledge and skills to ensure the safe management and administration of medicines.

You will be hard working, resilient and reflective with the ability to accept supervision and be accountable for your own practice. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential along with the practical skills required to plan and organize care and support delivery. You will be required to work on a rota system.

You will hold a relevant professional qualification (e.g., RMN, DipSW, BASW, NVQ IV). You will have at least 3 years experience of supporting people with mental health needs and at least one year’s experience of supervising staff and managing a team. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential as is the ability to organize your own time effectively and manage professional relationships. A commitment to your own continuous professional development is essential.
