Short Job Description:

Creative Support has successfully applied for funding from the Wigan Community Investment Fund (The Deal) to develop an innovative peer support service which will complement our existing housing and community support service, Wigan Wellbeing and Resilience Service. Wigan Peer to Peer Support is a three year project providing step-down support for our clients, and low intensity support for the Wigan community, through a variety of peer support methods.

This support provision will enable both mentors and mentees to gain confidence, new skills and opportunities, whilst increasing social connectivity. The service will be reliant on the input of volunteers. Reflecting our service users, we look to recruit volunteers who have lived experience of mental health related needs, addiction and histories of offending, or those who can utilise the strength gained from their own experiences to support clients on their journey to recovery.

As a Volunteer Activity Assistant you will work collaboratively with the Peer Support Volunteers and project coordinators to provide support in activity sessions. The Wigan Peer to Peer Support project is primarily volunteer and client-led with the support of staff. Our Peer Support Volunteers will identify activities that would be beneficial to those accessing support from the service, and your role will be to support staff in running these activities.

There are a range of activities and sessions that already take place at the service, and we welcome ideas of activities that would be beneficial to the wellbeing of our service users. The purpose of the activities is to aid the recovery journey of those accessing support, and these could take the form of social groups, support groups or arts and craft groups.

You will assist staff with planning and promoting the activity and help with general duties relating to the set-up, running and tidying up before, during, and after the activities. There is also an opportunity for you to delivery your own activity session if this is something you are interested in. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the Wigan Peer to Peer Support project, and make a meaningful difference to the people we support.

We do not accept CV’s as a form of application, applicants must submit a completed Creative Support application form which can be requested or downloaded via the listed methods. An enhanced DBS check is required for which we pay for. Creative Support is not a recruitment sourcing agency, all employees are directly employed by our organisation.
