Short Job Description:

West Berkshire Learning Disability Service provides a range of care packages that reflect the differing needs of our service users, from several hours each week to 24-hour support. The majority of our service users live in supported accommodation or in flats with the support of staff. Our client group is primarily made up of individuals with learning disabilities; however some of our service users also have additional physical needs and/or limited communication abilities.

In addition to care, our service users are supported in developing new skills linked to daily living such as route planning, managing personal finances and preparing meals. We aim to improve the social inclusion and independence of our service users by supporting them in accessing their local community and improving their social network.

As a Volunteer Driver you will enable service users to attend activities that they are otherwise unable to access. Activities such as swimming and horse riding are located outside of the town centre and are only accessible by car, so your role will be essential in supporting our service users enjoy meaningful activities.

While undertaking your role you will be accompanied by a support worker, who will assist the service user in attending their chosen activity. Depending on the activity, there may be an opportunity for you to participate if this is something you are interested in. This can be discussed and arranged with your named supervisor.

It is preferred that applicants have their own car but it’s not always necessary, as some of our residents have their own mobility car which the volunteer could drive.

Suggested Time Commitment:
1-3 hours per week, dependant on activity time and location. As a Volunteer Driver, you would not be required to stay at the activity but would be welcome to watch or participate, activity dependant.
