Short Job Description:

West Berkshire Learning Disability Service is a service which provides a wide range of care packages for our service users, from several hours each week to 24 hour support. The majority of our service users live in supported living shared houses or in flats with the support of staff. Our client group is primarily made up of individuals with learning disabilities; however some of our service users also have additional physical needs or limited communication.

In addition to care, our service users are supported in developing skills around daily knowledge such as route planning and personal finances. We aim to improve the social inclusion and independence of our service users by supporting them in accessing their local community and improving their social network.

As a Volunteer Befriender you will spend time one-to-one with our service users, supporting them to access their local community and participate in activities and opportunities. Befriending is a great way for our clients to meet new people, with the aim of increasing their social connectivity, confidence and independence.

We are seeking people with an empathetic, non-judgemental approach who will be able to develop trusting relationships with service users. You will play a crucial role in enabling service users to develop their self-esteem and wellbeing.

Suggested Time Commitment:
We suggest a minimum time commitment of two hours per week.
