Hi! My name is Lizz and I’ve recently started working for Creative Support. I work in the marketing department at Head Office, though I get to travel around to different projects’ events as part of my job. So far I’ve been to a barbecue in Tameside and to the National Media Museum in Bradford for work!
It’s great to see the kind of events that I go to as part of my job, where service users get together and have fun. Meeting new people and socialising with friends is a great way to feel part of a community, boost your self-confidence and combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. Loneliness can have a negative effect on your mental health – read more about that on Mind’s website – so spending time with others isn’t just good fun, it’s also good for you.
As part of my job I’m responsible for Creative Support’s new Get Together Grant. It’s a funding opportunity with a focus on bringing people together for one-off events or activities, whether that’s a trip to Blackpool, a tea dance at the local church hall, a day of group craft sessions, or something entirely different. Whatever it is, if you’re getting together to do it, you’re busting bad feelings and strengthening your ties to those around you, and hopefully having fun at the same time! Click here for more information and the grant application form, and you could be getting together for a special event soon.
