Dance to the Music!
The disco, which runs on Thursday evenings once monthly, from 7pm until 9pm is organised and DJ’d by Michael. Held at the local community centre, Michael charges £4 a ticket which covers the cost of the event. Michael’s brother-in-law and sister help to run a tuck shop offering snacks and drinks to thirsty disco dancers working up an appetite!
Michael, who wanted to run a disco for some time, got the enterprise off the ground by first speaking to his Support Workers who helped him to make a successful application for a grant to purchase some DJ equipment.
The first disco has already taken place and the next one is coming soon. Michael has already been invited to DJ at other parties and events.
“When I feel alone, stressed or upset, the disco is something I enjoy to do. It makes me happy and I like having people around me. It was great to see people come from so far, like Quorn and Melton Mowbray.”
And it’s not just Michael that enjoys the disco. Service users and staff have all said how much they enjoyed the music. People have also made suggestions for future discos such as fancy dress and themed nights.
Everyone who works with Michael is very proud of him and his musical achievements!
