International Women’s Day 2013
We celebrated International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March at our projects around the country.
In Manchester, we held three events across the city. Activities included a self-defence class held by Freedom Personal Safety, visits from Greater Manchester Police Community Support Officers, quizzes, Zumba, cake making competitions and Mother’s Day craft sessions.
Guests at our gathering in Cumbria enjoyed recipe swapping, jewellery making, pampering treatments including hair styling and nail art, and advice on relaxation from members of the local Buddhist temple.
We also broadcast a special episode of our LDOK.net radio show, featuring interviews with our service users and staff talking about the importance of International Women’s Day, and songs by female musicians.
The day was filled with fun, laughter and lots of great advice, and the women who took part felt empowered and uplifted! If you were involved, please send your photos and stories to firstname.lastname@example.org.
