Brian’s Blog: Number Twelve

Brian is a regular blogger for the Creative Support blog. Here is his latest post on what he has been up to recently.

It has been getting a bit busy in my diary recently regarding various trips. Quite a few are in conjunction with my project in so far that they involve the rest of the service users with days to Beamish, Scarborough and various inhouse training days such as Safeguarding.

I’ve showed my interest in any training days that might give me an advantage when I start looking for Christmas part time vacancies! I know we are barely halfway through Spring but I want to make every effort with the help of my support team to prove to those who keep telling me “you’re not fit to work Mr Holley” that unlike a lot of people who might decide, ‘great, I can just sit in the pub’, I want to earn money, not just sign on the dotted line.

I also think IT practice with the help of the support team will prove very useful. In fact it’s true all the support I’ve been getting since my arrival has been just what the doctor ordered (or should I say social worker). I’ve said a few times to the people who are providing my support I find it hard to understand why the other service users don’t take advantage as I’m doing. But as it has being explained to me more than once, the support is there for us to make use of but it’s not a vital part of the tenancy.

But since I’ve become aware of all the different facets of Creative Support I have no hesitation in requesting for any and all support that is available. On that note, I have a one-on-one day away with the support of Linda Robinson, one of the team, to York, which I am looking forward to. Perhaps service users both at this project and others will request similar support from their teams.

To finish I’ll just remind everyone of our Walking Group that will be starting up again once the weather improves. Who knows, this might remind other service teams and tenants who may want to get in touch with us about taking part once again. I feel the team here will be glad to discuss this group with any interested parties. That’s all for now until I have any more news.

It was brilliant to have your involvement at the training yesterday and would be great to try and get you involved in delivering some training too!

I’m looking forward to the Walking Group once this weather improves, I’ve started to clean my boots already.
