Meet Our Staff: Mike Edwards – North East Development Officer
Hi! My name is Mike Edwards and I am Development Officer for the North East region, working alongside Lucy Allen.
I have worked for Creative Support since 2008, as a Support Worker on Middlesbrough’s Floating Support team. I enjoy working for Creative Support, meeting and working with service users and staff and I am looking forward to getting to know service users across the North East in my new role.
Prior to working for Creative Support, I worked as an Arts Development Officer for councils across Teesside, promoting events, festivals, activities and workshops in the community. I have also worked as freelance writer and creative writing workshop facilitator and very much wish to use this experience as a Development Officer.
I’m interested in service user involvement. I am looking forward to visiting projects, seeing what activities are going on, and supporting and promoting activity. I’ve previously delivered some creative writing sessions for some service users in a Hartlepool project and I want to continue this. I’d like to establish some regular creative writing activity throughout the North East with spoken word events and publications produced by service users.
So far, Lucy has been giving me a good sense of what she’s been working on. She’s been setting up a What’s On flyer, asking service users to research local events and tell us about them. Together, we’ll also be planning a regional pen pal scheme, an event for International Women’s Day, service user training and consultations. We will soon be creating an events calendar based on feedback we’ve received from service user questionnaires.
I’m really enjoying the role so far and am looking forward to supporting and planning events and activities in the future.
