Stay Safe in the Cold Weather
With snowy and icy conditions setting in across the country we set out some of our top tips on keeping warm in the chilly conditions:
•If you’re heading outdoors, make sure that you wrap up warm. Put on a hat and scarf as you lose a lot of body heat when your head and neck are uncovered. Wear a waterproof coat or jacket if it’s snowy.
•Ensure that you wear sensible footwear outside to avoid slips and falls.
•Make sure that your home is well heated. To keep warm at home, wear long thermals your clothes and throw a blanket over your legs. Wear socks and slippers to stay snug.
•When you go to sleep, wear layers under your pyjamas and use extra covers.
•Drink plenty of warm beverages.
•Drivers should carry some essentials with them in case of a breakdown or delay. Essentials include an ice-scraper, spade, torch, warm clothes, blanket, pair of boots, first aid kit, battery jump leads, food and drink.
•Keep an eye on friends, neighbours and family who may be more vulnerable in cold weather.
