Brian’s Blog: Number Eight

Brian is a regular blogger for the Creative Support blog. Here is his latest post on what he has been up to recently.
The 15th of January saw me attend a Creative Support session about service users taking advantage of sports opportunities and other means of becoming active. They suggested starting at a steady pace and not to put yourself at risk while trying to get fit! Creative Support are there to help. It was a simple step to say “Yes, I will have a go at your Cycle Group”. From the session I came away with the ethos I participate in our project’s Walking Group therefore I am making a contribution. I would hope projects can develop a cooperative that allows service users and staff to access sporting activities difficult to source otherwise. All in all another Creative Support string to their bow – that reminds me, I could always try archery!

I too attended the Sports Maker Session on the 15th January, it was truely inspiring. I have now completed two and a half hours of volunteering!

Yesterday I attended a Boxercise Taster Session with the Redcar Floating Support Service. It wasn’t really what I had expected, we got boxing gloves and pads and worked out vigerously, throwing a variety of different punches. The best thing was everyone was able to work at there own pace. It was also very sociable as you change your partners all the time, so it was a great way to meet new people.

Redcar services are looking into the possibility of holding a monthly sporting taster session. If you are in the North East area and have any interesting sporting ideas please contact Lucy C or Lucy A at the Stockton Office.
