International Men’s Day
In the upcoming month Creative Support will be celebrating International Men’s Day by holding a celebration event in central Manchester. The event will include speakers, performance poetry and workshops. Many Creative Support employees and service users will also be supporting Movember, the campaign that raises awareness about prostate cancer through competitive moustache growing. We look forward to seeing the results, and we expect to see a sterling effort from the men in the Creative Support Head Office.
This is the first year that Creative Support has celebrated International Men’s Day, following on from our successful International Women’s Day events every year. Men’s health, both mental and physical has never been more important. Three out of four suicides are male, and suicide is the biggest killer of men under 35. One in nine men will also be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their life time. Men are statistically less likely to visit the doctor about health issues, and even less likely to talk about any mental health problems they might be experiencing.
We hope that by marking International Men’s Day we will give men a chance to connect with each other, recognise their individual strengths and gain valuable information relating men’s health and wellbeing. Stayed tuned to the Creative Support website to see the photos from the event.
