Brian’s Blog: Number Four
Brian is a regular blogger for the Creative Support blog. Here is his latest post on what he has been up to recently.
After been informed by the staff here at the project that I should be able to contact my Social Worker regarding the purchasing of new clothing, I was accompanied to the Benefits Office on the 17th October to collect a sum of money extra to my normal daily allowance.
With the help of a member of staff I selected an assortment of clothing from various shops. I feel it’s important to stress that once again the support was not overpowering – I was supported to make my own choices. No one should feel that support is forced – the discreet manner of the support would have been very difficult for anyone outside of the project to spot.
The mistaken idea that the grant awarded to me had to be spent in total there and then was soon put to rest and I returned to my flat with money from the grant left till another day.
I think this kind of support would pay dividends to any service user new or old. I’ll finish now but it won’t be long before I’ll be getting back to you all with the further adventures of flat 6.
