Brian’s Blog: Number Five
Brian is a regular blogger for the Creative Support blog. Here is his latest post on what he has been up to recently.
Well I boldly went where no Brian had gone before! The 18th saw me go with my friend and fellow service user Stephen to a healthy eating group. I must admit I was very apprehensive, I began thinking ‘How do I get away if my first impression of what the evening entails is negative?’ But when we got there I found the evening was very well organised. The people who ran the event it seemed had undergone extensive training as to how to run these courses. It soon became obvious that making people at ease was paramount.
I’ll admit a lot of the information was a little difficult to take in; I was a little concerned that I would leave none the wiser. But this was not the case. There was a feeling of camaraderie among the people attending, in fact while on the walk around the local area I spoke with another man who seemed to take pleasure in telling me about his initial misgivings. While doing this I was relieved to discover my feelings were not that unusual and this went a long way to put me at ease. After the walk came the cooking session. Once again misgivings I may have had soon vanished. Now while the meal may not have been one I would have chosen for myself I was able to use the information given as an incentive to try again, after all I didn’t expect to leave there another Ainsley Harriet! So I fully intend to go back.
