Blackburn Mental Health Football League
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust is delighted to announce that Creative Support have agreed to fund the current My Life Mental Health Football League.
The funding enables the continuation of the league for a further three years. It also allows opportunities for participants and volunteers to gain refereeing qualifications, team building days and social inclusion events.
A presentation evening to award all current players is also being planned. Further information will follow in due course.
The Mental Health Football League seeks to address the isolation, stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health and emotional well being. Through an enjoyable community environment, the football league provides opportunities for participation in friendly footballing competition, while further contributing towards encouraging and supporting individuals to make healthier lifestyle choices. It also seeks to promote self confidence, self esteem and peer support amongst service-users taking part. Further to this, it endeavours to promote social interaction, community cohesion, partnership working.
The league currently comprises of the following teams; Café Hub; James Street; Lancashire Mind; Blackburn Brasilia; Fountain; Community Restart; Affinity Support; Almond Villas and two teams from Wigan Athletic Community Trust.
