Creative Support – the talent explodes!

The Creative Support’s Got Talent finals at Band on the Wall in Manchester proved to be a night of fantastic entertainment!

The audience of more than 250 service users and staff watched star turns from a variety of musicians, singers, dancers and a comedian. A panel of four judges was on hand to give feedback to each act, featuring two Creative Support staff members, service user member of Creative Support’s Board of Trustees, Roy Havery, and celebrity guest judge, Aaron McCusker, star of ‘Shameless’. Aaron was a hit with the audience and had a fantastic night:

I’m amazed by all the brilliant entertainment I’ve seen and heard tonight. We’ve discovered some real showbiz superstars, which just goes to show that a mental health condition is no barrier to success. I’ve recorded some of it on my phone and can’t wait to show the guys at work. Well done to everyone who took part.

In total, nine performers took to the stage for the semi-finals: Chris Willets, Andrew Lord, Steve Harrison and Pete Knowles, Billy Corbett, Martin Maybin, Krystyna Lewandowski, Ronnie Hoyte, Thomas Regan and Brian Aggett all wowed the audience and made the voting very difficult for all. Four acts made it through to the final round: Chris, Billy, Ronnie and Thomas. All the acts received rapturous applause and the audience members were faced with a tough decision when it came to voting for their favourite finalist. Competition for the prize was close and the atmosphere was electric as the winner was announced.

Dancer Thomas Regan emerged victorious and took away the coveted ‘Creative Support’s Got Talent’ trophy and £300 prize money. The runners up included a guitar soloist, an Elvis impersonator and a rock ‘n’ roll singer, which represents just a taste of the amazingly diverse talents of individuals who have a mental health condition. Thomas was both emotional and ecstatic

Thanks to everyone who voted for me and thank you to Creative Support, you saved my life. Winning is great and this just shows that life is good.
