The Helm – from Lancaster to Windermere – a fun day for all!
Service users and staff at The Helm raised money at their Easter Craft Fair to fund a summer activity. The service users took a vote at their Service User Meeting and we decided to spend the funds on a trip to Windermere last month. We used the money to organise and pay for a minibus and to subsidise the cost of tickets for the boat ride across Windermere. As an added bonus, the ferry company gave us substantial discounts towards the costs of the seats on the boat, so a big thank you goes out to them.
The excitement built in the run up to departure and no-one was disappointed on the day, a fabulous day out was had by all:
It was really good, all the staff were great. What more is there to say!
It was great I love the boat, there were great views all around, it was fun and I saw a castle from the boat.
The Helm in Lancaster provides a drop in service for people with a range of mental health needs, from mild to moderate and severe to enduring. The service in Lancaster city centre is accessible to the general public as well as those requiring advice and guidance, signposting and support. There is a Cafe, which provides hot homemade food and we also offer an advocacy and outreach service. Our support services are individualised and promote recovery, wellbeing and greater independence. We do this by strengthening each person’s coping abilities and natural support systems. Anyone who feels they are at risk of social isolation can access the service.
For more information, take a look at our leaflet, contact The Helm on 01524 840521 or drop in and have a chat; we are open weekdays between the hours of 9 and 5.
