The Great Swims!
Every summer, thousands of intrepid adventurers, although some might describe them in other ways, take part in one of the Great Swims! These are open water swims ranging from 1/2 to 2 miles in quays, lakes and lochs across the land! This year, seven of our staff took the plunge, literally and did their bit for charity.
In May, Colette Leigh conquered the Salford Swim and raised a fantastic £260 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Just a few words to describe my swim – cold and exhausting and very much worthwhile! Thanks to everyone who supported me!
Joe Hughes and Claire Lumb impressed us all by doing the double, the Great Manchester Run and the Great Salford Swim, on the same day! And in weather conditions that were much more a hindrance than a help.
We want to thank everyone who supported us, we both struggled to finish the swim and it was the thought of everyone who sponsored us that kept us going!
Claire and Joe
In June, The Four Marketeers – Alison White, Alannah Gale (former employee), Harriet Knowles and Suzanne Morton – braved the balmy waters of Windermere (all of 16 degrees celcius) and joyously survived!
Claire, Joe, Alison, Alannah, Harriet and Suzanne formed part of the Banana Army and raised a fabulous £1200 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
I was proud of the whole team! Despite varying levels of trepidation, everyone made the commitment to participate, come what may, and we raised a lot of money for a very worthy cause! It wasn’t easy, but everyone had a great sense of achievement at the end. There was even talk of doing it again next year!
If you feel the urge to dip your toes in the open water, there is one Great Swim left this year, the Great Scottish Swim takes place on September 24th in Strathclyde Loch. Or if you took part in one of those that have gone before and were modest in your achievement, please do let us know how it was for you!
And anyone interested in joining the team for next year, just let us know!
